4 hours in Beijing between flights - Canadian passport - transit visa?
I'm a Canadian (the rest of my family have Japanese passports, thus do not need a visa for the PRC) we are flying HND-PEK-YVR (Tokyo to Vancouver BC via Beijing) on CA. There is about 4 hours between flights on the outbound trip. I want to see the Temple of Heaven again (last seen 1979) and see the subway connection is good. I think it is doable. Now I need to know if there is a transit visa for that short time - or if I need a full tourist visa.

- hi James,
i don't think the 4 hours is enough for you to visit the Temple of Heaven. so i suggest you just stay in the airport. in this way, you don't need to apply the visa.
but if you want to get out off the airport and take a short trip around, you need to apply a China visa.Answered by Tina | Jun. 27, 2011 18:06 - That's disappointing!
So we would be on the Transit side of the PEK?
Do we need RMB to buy food there? CAD or USD, or Yen for that matter?Answered by James M (Japan) | Jun. 27, 2011 18:50 - yes, i think so.
actually, the transit procedure will take 1 - 2 hours.
you need RNB if you want to buy food in the airport. there are currency exchange service in the airport.Answered by Tina | Jun. 27, 2011 19:06 - So I have been persuaded to stay inside flight connection area (no Chinese visa) at PEK T3. I assumed there would be lots of Chinese restaurants - but it seems very limited on the non-domestic part.
