Question about China G Visa (Transit Visa)

Japan to Holland via Pudong, visa needed to get into the city?
Hi,
I will be travelling from Japan to Holland via Pudong airport. The transit story is clear to me, but I need to leave the airport to pick up some stuff and a friend and need to crash on a coach for a night.
So the above story tells me I could do this without a visa or transit, because I am Dutch. But is this true? How valid is this info? Can I leave the airport for a day?
If I do apply for a transit visa G, it will be a 7 day visa, but will they cancel my current 90 day visa or is this visa G valid for a specific set of days??
Please help me out, I am having difficulty getting in touch with the entry and exit bureau in Pudong...
Thank you in advance.Asked by William (Holland) | Jun. 06, 2012 01:23Answer Question

- Hi William,
i'm confused. you said you have a 90 day visa,is that a Chinese visa? or visa to other country?
since you are a Dutch, you can stay in Shanghai for at most 48 hours for transit, without a visa.s so you don't need to apply the G visa.Answered by Lisa | Jun. 06, 2012 17:45 - Hi Lisa,
Thank you for your answer!
Let me explain the 90 day visa. I have a Chinese 90 day visa, because I am in Shanghai at the moment. I will leave for Tokyo in a few weeks. I already have a planeticket back to Holland from Shanghai, so I planned to come back from Tokyo the day before my plane to Holland leaves in Shanghai. I will leave my suitcase with a friend in Shanghai. so I have to pick it up before I leave. That is why I need to know about the transit.
When I apply for a visa G now, here in shanghai, I was afraid to loose my 90 day visa ahead of time. But I also found somewhere online I can get a transit visa G in Tokyo, before I go back to Shanghai... which would be better and safer for my current visa.
But you are telling me that I do not need a transit because I am Dutch. So I can just get out of the airport, go into the city, get my stuff back and go back to the airport the next day without a problem?
I just really wanted to double check because China changes their rules and laws pretty often and I found your visa information to be dated back from 2008.Answered by Wilco (Holland) | Jun. 06, 2012 18:59 - Hi William,
is your 90 Chinese visa a single, double, or multiple entry visa?
if it is a single entry visa, it will expire when you leave China for Japan; but if it is a double entry visa, it is still valid when you go back to China and of course you don't need the G visa; if it is a multiple entry visa, you can enter China for many times within the period of validity, and in this case, your 90 day visa is still valid and you don't need the G visa, either.
as for the information that Dutch people do not need the G visa for transit in Shanghai if you stay there less than 48 hours, i can assure that you it is correct.Answered by Lisa | Jun. 07, 2012 19:56 - Hi Lisa,
My visa is a double entry, but will loose the second one on a trip to Malaysia. So... will be rendered without a valid Chinese visa once I leave for Japan.
Thank you for your answer. I need no more then 48 hours in the city (about 16 hours actually), so I will not need a transit visa G. That is awesome. It's good to be Dutch :) Haha.Answered by William (Holland) | Jun. 08, 2012 03:08 - When traveling from the US to Thailand (visa not required), I want to spend < 48 hours in Shanghai to visit a friend. I read that a transit visa is not required. What do I need to have on hand, to show the immigration desk in the Pudong airport?Answered by Scott (USA) | Oct. 16, 2012 10:07
- to Scott:
take it easy, no special documents are required. the immigration officer may ask you to show your passport and the connecting air tickets.Answered by Lily | Oct. 16, 2012 21:13
