Chinese visa for a husband
What do I need to do to obtain a relative visa as I'm returning to teach in China in February and my husband would like to accompany me.. I have a current residential visa. We live in Nova Scotia- where is the nearest consulate?I understand I need to bring an original marriage certificate. How long does it take to process a visa?
Thank you for this service.

- 1. you should go to the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa to apply the visa.
2. as your accompanying family, your husband should also apply a work visa (Z visa), as i believe you are holding a work visa and a residence permit but not a residential visa.
3. you should also provide an Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit or Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by an authorized Chinese unit (which i think refers to the school you are going to work for), and, of course, your original marriage certificate.
4. it usually takes about 4 working days after all the documents have been submitted.Answered by Rosa | Jun. 27, 2012 20:20 - Thanks for your quick reply Rosa.
1. We will go to Ottawa in October to arrange the visa.
2. My visa is a work visa and a residence visa and it is valid until March 12,2013. We plan to return on February 15th, 2013. Will I need another Invitation letter of duly authorized unit or will I be able to enter on my current visa?
3.We have a copy of the original marriage certificate from a Unitarian Church in Montreal. Will this be OK? Should a also take a notarized letter to the effect that my husband and I have been married for 51 years?
4. Is it possible for the Chinese Embassy to courier the passports to us or do we have to pick them up in person after 4 working days?
Thanks Rosa. We'd like to get this right as our home province is in NS and we want to have the right documents with us.Answered by Pam Seville (Canada) | Jun. 28, 2012 00:44 - 1. one correction: now you need to apply the visa through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Ottawa, where provide a postal service and you can apply the visa by post. but the processing time would be around 2 weeks.
2. your current visa will be ok and you can enter China with them. remember to have your residence permit extended right after your arrive China. the invitation letter is used when applying the visa for your husband.
3. you should provide the original marriage ceritificate, the copy does not work.
4. if you apply by post, you do not need to pick up them in person. the visa application center suggests that you should start to apply the visa at least one month prior to your departure date, but not eariler than 3 months in advance. you can consult the visa application center for detailed information:

That's great that we can apply for the visa via the postal service . A couple more questions please:
1.WE need a certification of our marriage certificate from the Chinese Embassy to get a relative's visa for my husband. Can I send the documentation for this certification by post ot do I have to do this step in person? If I can't find the original letter of our marriage certificate from the church can I send a duplicate original letter? Or could I send a notarized letter from a lawyer tat we have been married for 51 years?
2. My husband is applying for a relative's visa. Does he need an invitation letter from the school to apply for this visa?
Thanks for all the information which is very helpful.Answered by Pam Seville (Canada) | Jun. 29, 2012 06:26 - 1. you have to go this in person, the Chinese Embassy does not provide postal service. before you going to the Chinese Embassy, you should have your documents notarized by a local notary public, lawyer or Commissioner of Oaths of Canada, and then authenticated by the authentication office of the Canadian Foreign Affairs Department or the relevant province (territory). for detailed information about the notarization, you can check the official website of Chinese Embassy: http://ca.china-embassy.org/eng/lsyw/gzrz/rz/
as for your marriage certificate, you'd better consult you local authentication office or the Chinese Visa Application Service Center.
2. yes, he need an invitation letter from the school.Answered by Rosa | Jun. 29, 2012 21:23
