I recently re-read Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming's book, "Ancient Chinese Weapons: A Martial Artists Guide," and was intrigued by the "Money Rings and Double Sabers (Qian Ling and Shuang Dao)" which, according to the text, "were popularly used by the Li tribe on the Hainan Island of Guangdong Province. Money rings were made from a section of bamboo about two Chi long. The central empty space was filled with coins. When these weapons were used, they made noise. The double sabers are two short sabers, resembling a cow's ears. These weapons are used by a specific, isolated tribe in China. When and how they were created is unknown."
Can you tell me more about these weapons, Li/Hainan martial arts in general, and if the weapons are still practiced anywhere on the island?
