Is it OK for us to bring a photos of our ancestors to hotel for tea ceremony
Dear Sir / Madam,
My son will marry a girl from Hong Kong. We decided to have a tea ceremony at a hotel because my son and his fiancé requests to have a wedding, with all ceremonies, at one location.. In our Vietnamese wedding tradition, we also have a tea ceremony and all wedding ceremonies will be performed in front of our ancestor altar. Therefore, we all agreed that the groom family will set up the ancestor altar for both families.
However, we found out later that her grandma did not want to bring a photo of her husband and others to hotel and now she also against us to bring our ancestor photos to the tea ceremony. She stated that we can not bring a spirits to this event. We would like to know that is it Chinese customs for not permit that or just her own opinion. We'd greatly appreciate your help with this matter.

- Hi, Tony. You should not bring photos of your ancestors to the ceremony. People become spirits after their death, who might bring misfortune. So it is improper or even impolite to bring their photos to such a happy ceremony. :)Answered by Li Ming (CN) | Sep. 29, 2016 21:04
