Question about China Customs Declarations

bringing items on plane
I have to return some product that was shipped to canada from china and want to take it on the plane. it might be valued at $300 canadian, and is about 1000 pieces of one item. Is it possible to check or carryon this in baggage, and what would i need to do to declare it, and what might the charges be.
thank you, mostly i need to know if it is possible to do this the items need to be returned to the company we bought it from and we are going to china in a few weeks.
