Why the bellboys at Shanghai Astor House Hotel wear kilts (skirts) with Scotish tartan?
My wife and I are spending five nights at the Astor House Hotel (Pujiang) hotel at the end of March 2011. We notice from photos the bellboys at this hotel wear kilts (skirts) with Scotish tartan. We are from Scotland and wonder what the connection is? Can anyone help? We would be really interested

- Astor House Hotel(or Richard's Hotel,as it was known before) was established in 1846(during Qing Dynasty Daoguang period,26 years)by the Richard's family. It is the very first western hotel property all over China since Shanghai became a trading port.
I think its because of the person who started this hotel was from Scotland, therefore the hotel people expect to maintain its culture.Answered by Chen (CN) | Nov. 23, 2010 20:01
