  What should we do to protect ourselves against Beijing's cold weather?

  I am travelling to Beijing in Mid Jan. 2011, and understand from my friends that it is freezing cold and not many crowds in tourist spots, is that true? can one's nose breed due to extreme cold weather in Beijing? what should we do to protect ourselves against such weather?Any special type of boots/shoes? can sport shoes/sneaker sufficient?
  
  What is the nearby tourist towns?

• Hi, it is true that Beijing is cold during that period. But, please take it easy! A down jacket, thick jeans and sport shoes are okay> Of course, scarf and gloves may help. Wow, some girls also wear woolen skirt.
