about 1 hour if there's no traffic jam. you can walk to the Beijing International Hotel to take the airport shuttle bus; or you can take the subway from the station to Dongzhimen, and transfer to the subway airport line.
it costs about CNY 70 - 80 by taxi.

I heard from a friend that Metro train is always over-crowded. One of their friends was left behind and did not manage to get into the train due to the crowd. I'm bringing my son and I'm very worry about the crowd.
How bad is the situation ?

take it easy. it is really crowed at peak time, such as the time when people go for work and get back home, some people can not get into the cabin due to the crowd.
but the situation for buses are not that bad, so you can take buses travelling around. when getting to the city center from the airport, you can take the airport shuttle bus instead of the subway.
