Question about China G Visa (Transit Visa)

  D I need a transit visa if I stop over and explore Beijing?

  I am an australian citizen stopping over at beijing aiport for 18 hours on route from sydney to vancouver. i would like to explore the city a little. do i need to apply for a transit visa? how much is this and how long does it take? are their day tours available for pickup at the airport?
