Question about China D Visa (Residence Visa)

  What Type Visa Do I Need.

  I've lived and worked in China for over ten years. I've had numerous Z visas and work permits/temporary residence permits. In that time I would travel back to the USA two or three times each year. My wife is Chinese, we've been married 7 years. We bought a flat in Dalian in 2015. We each have our own ownership certificate (book) listing each as co-owners. Now that my job is ending I'm wondering what kind of visa I need, to continue living in my home in Dalian with my wife as well as traveling back and forth between China and the US. I would apply for a China Permanent Residence permit but I haven't satisfied the 9 month stay for five consecutive years requirement.

• You can apply for a Q1 visa for that. With the Q1 visa, you can apply for a temporary residence permit which will allow you to exit and re-enter China for multiple times within its validity and the residence permit can be extended before its expiry date.

• you can get a one or two years resident Visa at the Police Headquarters in the city your wife is a registered resident. You need to go for a health exam for the two years visa and you most have 6 months remaining on your passport. I am also from the USA with Chinese wife, from Changsha. For the 1st few years I renewed my one year visa. Then we moved to Hainan Dongfang and purchased a Condo. I met a woman who works for Foreign Affairs and she told me about the two year resident visa. I've done the two year visa twice now. This well satisfy the 9 month stay for five consecutive years requirement for me, for my D-visa.
